Pearls of Wisdom

Today’s Pearl of Wisdom:
What is our environment? Is it the area of your house and garden, or is it bigger than that? Your house is full of gifts that have originated in the natural world, such as metal utensils, pottery bowls, wooden chairs etc. You cannot say that you can shut the door on the environment, because it is around you where ever you go. When you go to the shops you may drive using petrol and bring goods home in bags that are from the petroleum industry also. If you want your children and their descendants to have a comfortable life then you must protect the resources and the environment. What can you do towards creating a life that cares not just for you now but for the future?

Today’s Pearl of Wisdom:
Honesty is not something that should be applied in varying degrees. Honesty is uncompromising truth. We can usually pick deep down honesty in someone quite quickly. However the really honest person is not always popular, since people do not always want to hear the truth. The key is to couch brutal honesty in ways that the listener can hear. That is not such an easy task, but is necessary!

Today’s Pearl of Wisdom:
It is not a time to sit back and wonder what will happen in the world. It is a time to make great effort in your personal life, in your family life, and in the wider world. It is up to you to take self responsibility for what is happening around you. Dialogue with politicians! Write to food companies. Insist on healthy food for your bodies, produced in a way that does not damage the environment, your food or you. Insist that farm animals are treated ethically and with respect.
This is the responsibility of everyone.

Today’s Pearl of Wisdom:
What is it that makes you feel angry or upset? Everyone feels lees than perfect at times and suppressing those feelings is not the way to deal with it. When you feel upset, look at what is the underlying cause. Has someone bruised your ego? Has someone undermined you? There can be many reasons. Sometimes there is a pattern in the things that make you upset. Can you look for the repeated patterns and examine where that comes from? Once you are aware of these triggers you have a key to solving some of your emotional upsets. If you work on yourself, reflecting on your usual responses will help you in the future.

Today’s Pearl of Wisdom:
It is not the place of one to tell another what to do and how to think. Everyone must be free to make their own choices.

Today’s Pearl of Wisdom:
“God’s in his heaven – All’s right with the world.” So wrote the poet Robert Browning. However these days it is blatantly obvious that all is not right with the world. Most problems are manmade, but there are also things that people call acts of God. These things are earthquakes, bush fires, floods, landslides, and tidal waves. These disasters are not normally manmade but are none the less, hugely devastating. Rather than acts of God these are wake up calls for humanity. They are calling us to do something, however small, to help.
“The year’s at the spring,
And day’s at the morn;
Morning’s at seven;
The hill-side’s dew-pearled;
The lark’s on the wing;
The snail’s on the thorn;
God’s in His heaven—
All’s right with the world!
Robert Browning.

Today’s Pearl of Wisdom:
Life is full of turmoil. Nothing is straightforward. Can you keep calm in the face of all this? Most people are dealing with a challenge or two all the time. This is quite normal for without troubles you would not recognise the good times. However when you connect with friends and family and can put differences aside, then you will experience the beauty in humanity.

Today’s Pearl of Wisdom:
Trouble shooting is what we do when we are trying to help others solve problems. It is also what we do when we try to change something politically. There is some good in troubleshooting but on a personal level we must be careful to allow the person to come to their own solutions. Troubleshooting politically works best when rather than attempting to change what is, you present new solutions and new systems for consideration.

Today’s Pearl of Wisdom:
Jesus died on the cross but not for your sins! Your mistakes are your own karma. Jesus died because not enough people were ready to hear his message of love and peace. This message is not being heeded these days either. How can anyone stand up, from any religion, and go to war in God’s name? All the souls in the world are of equal value and no one has the right to take another’s life for any reason.

Today’s Pearl of Wisdom:
“How many roads must a man walk down before you call him a man? How many seas must a white dove sail before she sleeps in the sand?” (Bob Dylan) The journey of life is one where one looks at oneself and decided whether one has progressed the way one would hope. Has the destination been reached in honesty and integrity and love? These are questions you will ask on your death bed. Did I do what I came here to do? Could I have done it differently?
Why not ask these questions now, and you might have a happier ending.

Today’s Pearl of Wisdom:
Fighting is a useless activity. Children are told not to fight because adults and teachers see the futility of it. Somehow adults can forget, and in their own relationships can have some really acrimonious fights. Perhaps the other person has lied or cheated and so the justification for a fight is there. Sometimes quarrels are just about whose turn it is to clean the kitchen, or why the toilet seat has been left up! Fighting never solves anything. War and fighting have to end through constructive dialogue, and so in wars lives are wasted for nothing. At home quarrels have to end in loving dialogue. Isn’t it easier just to constructively dialogue in the first place?

Today’s Pearl of Wisdom:
Living a healthy life requires effort. Your food is the first thing to think of. You would not put the wrong sort of petrol in your car, so do not put unsuitable food in your body. Your body requires exercise, and if you are not in a position to walk, run, or swim, you can do stretches and yoga to keep your body active.
Then there is your mind! You need to make an extra effort to think positively. Be aware of the negative and what is wrong, but come from a place of positivity and love. The cells in your body will respond accordingly.
Having a healthy relationship with your spirit is more difficult, because it requires a belief system that supports the existence of Spirit. Your beliefs can help or hinder your life according to how you relate to them.

Today’s Pearl of Wisdom:
Values and morals were highly regarded as important in the past. Today the rules we live by have changed. Old fashioned morals have been set aside for a waffley kind of humanism. Be kind, be good, be helpful – but the definition of those words is rather broad. High standards of ethics are essential if a society is to succeed. Defining those ethics is necessary not only for a society, but for every individual, so each person has a yardstick to measure their behaviour against. The challenge is first to define those values for ones-self.

Today’s Pearl of Wisdom:
How often are you put in a position where you have a choice to speak out, or be silent? Have you ever not spoken out while someone else has and they are left standing for something on their own? Perhaps you were quiet because you needed to keep a job, or friends, or keep the peace; but is it worth it? It is best to be who you truly are by speaking your truth. You will be rewarded with peace of mind.

Today’s Pearl of Wisdom:
Love from other people is something we crave as humans. A smile, a touch, an expression of appreciation, are all expressions of love. It is wonderful when someone loves you, but do you love yourself? We project ourselves out into the world and so if we send out the message that we think we are unlovable, it is difficult to attract love. If, however, one projects a loved reality, then you will attract love to you. This applies in all sorts of relationships, as love is not confined to couples and relationships. You get what you give so send out the message that you are worth loving and then you will be!
